This page is here to follow my three main challenges this year. Since finishing my 1955 project I was left to a realization that I think many modern people are unaware of: We can accomplish alot. With the modern distraction of computer (it was and most likely will still be only used as a glorified typewriter and set of encyclopedias) tv, going out, etc one has quite a bit of time. I found myself able to pile more onto my plate and rather than feel overwhelmed or put upon, was rather excited to try the next thing, all the while improving upon what I had already started.
I think this page could also, as hopefully most of this site will become, part of a community. Any of you who would like to set 'challenges' and then hold yourself accountable by having them here on this blog so we can share, follow or commiserate, please do so. Simply let me know apronrevolution@gmail.com
Now, my three main challenges are as follows.
1. A drawing a day. I have been and still am in many ways, an artist. I love painting and drawing and various other forms of art as well. I felt this way I could at least get a 'scribble' out of myself and at the end of it have 365 (at least) drawings or doodles. They will be mainly 1950's themed, but also affected by my life and surroundings of course. They will always appear here on this page as making occasional appearences on the ART page as well.
Here is the first one:
Well, I am a few days behind, but I shall catch up. This is a 'cartoon' sketch I did. It's style is influenced by comics and childrens book illustrative 'loose' style of the 1950's as is the theme. I quickly drew it in pen and ink (the 1956 aspect of my) then popped into my 'time machine' landed here in my little study 54 years later and scanned it into the computer. There it recieved color and minor touches from Photoshop. The sentiment, however, works both in 1956 AND 2010.
Day 2 Challange Drawing: (another cartoon you can see it in a larger version on my Blog.)
Now, I don't think this is 'high art' by any means, and in fact many of my drawings for this daily project will be illustrative or cartoonish, if you will. I would like to try some also influenced by the adverts of the time. So, take it for what it is worth and of course with a grain of salt.
Day 3 Challenge Drawing

Another cartoon. Perhaps my drawing challenge should be a cartoon challege. We shall see. If you want to see a larger version you can see it on my BLOG.
2.I purchased a lovely book last year that I briefly mentioned on my blog. It is the cordon bleu cook book by Dione Lucas. The first American Woman to ever graduate from the prestigious cooking school in Paris. This book has so many wonderful recipes in it and I want to cook my way through it but decided one recipe, well done a month was a good goal. Of course I can do more, but one is require. The results and recipe will also be posted here.
3.The third challenge is to make one dress a month. Certainly I could do more if I choose, but I must promise myself one a month and I would like some of them to be made up with only a basic pattern and the rest being my 'imagination or invetion'. The results will appear here.And possibly appear in some way on the SEWING PAGE or the FASHION page, depending on how good the result.
So, let me know if this is of any interest to you to follow me along on this bit of my project.
OTHERS CHALLENGES:
Now, many of you out there are also trying challenges this year and we shall list them if you like.
We will start with a wonderful follower to my blog and a great "Apronite" (that is an Apron Revolutionary!) Sanne from Denmark. Here is a link to her site: SaMaTi. And her challenge for she and her husband is:
{DH and I have decided that 2010 should be a buy-nothing-year. We are only allowed to buy what we really need, that is things we use and have to buy again, like food and toiletpaper. I have added to the project that we should clear out some of the things that haven’t been used during the last ten year or so. They should be donated to charity, sold or simply go to the dumpsite.}
So, if you want to share email me any photos of your progress or list of your challenges (if they differ from my three) etc. We are a community!
