The term Early American was termed in the post WWII era for the style of furniture being produced at that time that took it's cues from the Colonial or Early years of American, particularly New England.

I have included Country in this look, because I think today's Country has that same element: Looking to a past and recreating a sort of 'idea' of the past with out the rigid set of rules often used in more FORMAL or antique settings. There is also much of the ROMANTIC in this look, as it evokes a time, often without the need of 100% accuracy (no one wants an outside Loo 100 feet from the back door!). There is a Mood prevalent of times past, but often ofset with little vignettes of supposed moments, a collection of old mason jars with buttons, a collection of rolling pins as art.

So, enjoy

Early American/Country Storyboard

Read fellow Apronites guest blog about her wonderful 101 year old home she and her husband have been remodeling HERE.

Storyboard 1950's themed "Early American" look.

The 1948 Chair from Danish Designer Ole Wanscher, at the top, though mid-century modern, has a very Early or Colonial Line. A pair of chairs such as these could blend lovely next to a fireplace either old or made to look old. The fabric could also be in a 1950's Early American Pattern, such as this:This is a fabric I own and plan on using. You can see the 'Early American' look on this authentic Vintage fabric, but it its interpretation of 'colonial things' has actually a very modern take on it. I think a fabric such as this either covering the chair or taking the blue or red of the fabric and covering the chairs in that solid color and these as pillows. They could be in a room with a fireplace such as this. These mid-century Ethan Allen 'Early American' Side tables could also strike a nice mid-century 'country colonial' look. The metal accents are nice as are the turned legs, yet the overall look is very 1950's.Such mid-century dishes as these "Rafia" dinnerware by Vernon Kilns or Pink Willow Dishes would go lovely in a dinning room in this style.
